Dangers of Pressure Cleaning Pavers

Pavers are a concrete mixture with millions of pieces of tiny sand and other aggregates. Over time dirt, mold and other stains can discolor stone and cause an eyesore Unfortunately, the coarse blend used to make pavers makes it easy for particles to stick to the surface. Usually we clean hard surfaces with high PSI blasts of water, but that can erode pavers, damage mortar and leave lines. When cleaning pavers we take extra precautions not to cause damage!

How to Clean Pavers

At Silverback Pressure Washing we know when cleaning pavers, two things can happen: They either look brand new when your done… …or they need to replacing. Knowing how to clean brick and stone pavers is key to a great looking back yard! The bottom line is you need experience and the right gear.

First, make sure to use a lower pressure stream. Using a high pressure stream of water is an easy way to erode the stone and cause irreversible damage.

Second, try a push pressure washer instead of a wand. Walk behind models provide a more even clean and help avoid lines! Third, choose a wide angle nozzle instead of a straight nozzle. Wide angle nozzles spread the water stream over a larger surface area and cause less damage.

Finally, try to hold the wand further from the cleaning surface than normal. By holding the nozzle angled, and at least 12 inches from the ground you can decrease pressure and damage.

Concrete Pave Maintenance Tips

At Silverback Pressure Washing we know preventative maintenance is the best way to keep pavers clean. Try washing your paving stone with a broom and hose at least once a month. Regular cleaning is an easy way to wash away particles before they set into the stone.
